The 57-year-old Sidhu, who was appointed as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on July 23, sent his resignation to the party president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday.
There’s ne’er a dull moment in Punjab politics it seems! And September has been an eventful month for the Congress-ruled state that saw an interesting episode of musical chairs being played out. The sequence of events has the perfect plot-twists for a web series. Or at least that’s what netizens have to say, after another googly hit the Congress on Tuesday. Barely ten days after pushing former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to his exit, Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as the Punjab Congress president. The 57-year-old Sidhu, who was appointed as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on July 23, sent his resignation to the party president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday.”The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress,” he wrote in the letter.
Singh, who is on his first visit to Delhi since resigning as CM, took some political potshots at the former TV show host. The veteran Congress leader dubbed the cricketer-turned-politician as a man who is “not stable” and “not fit” for the border state which now has a new CM in Charanjit Singh Channi. And Captain wasn’t the only one who had something to say about this Tuesday’s development. Social media, too, aced its humour quotient, theorising and speculating about the state of affairs in the state that is slated to go to Assembly polls early next year. One user, unable to keep a count of the twists and turns, urged streaming service Netflix India to make a show on Punjab politics. Tandaav in Punjab? Why not, we say!”Dear @NetflixIndia, please make a web series on #PunjabPolitics so that we can understand what’s happening there. #amrindarsingh #NavjotSinghSidhu #CaptAmarinderSingh,” he tweeted.

Columnist Suhel Seth asked Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, whom he described as a ‘man of letter’, to help “decipher what Navjot Sidhu means in his resignation letter.” “I don’t want Sonia Gandhi to misunderstand this masterpiece of a Letter from a President to an Interim President with apologies to Nehru.,” Seth tweeted.

In another tweet, Seth also went invoked the Netflix barb, saying, “Now all that remains in the Congress Saga is for Rahul Gandhi to resign and join the BJP. Or perhaps the DMK. That would make @netflix look like kindergarten.”

AAP hogged the timeline – another posted a meme featuring Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, with a ‘knock knock’ joke. Understandably – with the Badals trying to regain a foothold after their split from the BJP, the AAP has become the Congress’s toughest competition in the state.
